(Re)Introducing Josh Allen, BCHA’s Chief Operating Officer
Josh Allen may be a familiar face to many at Barbour Community Health Association (BCHA), but he has a new role at the organization. As BCHA’s new Chief Operating Officer, he is bringing his heart for service, his deep roots in Barbour County, and his results-oriented leadership style to support patients, staff, and the community.
We sat down with him to learn more about his journey, his vision for BCHA, and what drives him to serve our community every single day.
From Community Engagement to Leadership
Josh has been an active member of the Barbour County community for more than 20 years, and serving others has always been at the center of his work. For the past two years, he’s been out in the Barbour County community as our Community Engagement Specialist, building relationships and connecting people with the resources they need.
“What led me to BCHA was the unique opportunity to work within the community and in the field of substance use and prevention,” Josh shared. “My passion and heart lies in serving others, and BCHA gave me the chance to do just that.”
These experiences have shown him what matters most: listening to people and meeting them where they are. Whether helping someone find food assistance, housing resources, or treatment options, Josh has seen firsthand how BCHA serves as more than just a healthcare provider.
The BCHA Difference
When asked what sets BCHA apart, Josh points to something you can’t find in a brochure: how we treat people. “What sets us apart is how we treat our employees,’ Josh explained. ‘We value each employee, offer opportunities to grow within the organization, and truly care about them as individuals.’ That care extends to every patient who walks through our doors.
Josh values BCHA’s commitment to never turning anyone away, regardless of their ability to pay. He plans to support staff, strengthen operations, and continue expanding services that make healthcare easier to access. He hopes smoother processes, better communication, and continued high-quality care will continue to ensure every patient feels respected, heard, and valued.
Josh’s priorities for his first year are clear: increase efficiency so you spend less time waiting, strengthen our team so staff can deliver their best care, and unify all BCHA locations as one caring community. “Our goal is to continue providing the highest quality customer service, ensuring that our patients and community feel proud of the care and support we offer,” Josh said.
What Patients Can Expect
For many families in Barbour County and surrounding communities, BCHA is more than a healthcare provider. It is a familiar face during stressful times and a steady presence in the community. Josh is committed to carrying forward the values that have guided BCHA for many decades.
As he settles into his new role, patients can expect the same compassionate care they have always known, along with a renewed focus on growth and innovation. Josh looks forward to meeting more members of the community and hearing directly from patients about their experiences and needs.
BCHA is excited to welcome Josh and is grateful for the foundation Debbie Schoonover built over her 25 years of dedicated service with the organization. With Josh’s leadership, we are ready for the next chapter of expanding access to healthcare and supporting the well-being of every person who walks through our doors.
If you see Josh in the clinic or out at a community event, he hopes you will say hello, share your experience, and let him know how BCHA can better support you and your family.
