5 Reasons Barbour Community Health Association is the Smart Choice for your Baby or Toddler
The best pediatric care for your young child is right here where you live.
Because their first years of life are so critical, you want the best possible pediatric care for your baby or toddler. Research confirms that quality pediatric care positively impacts multiple health factors, including early brain development, disease prevention, developmental monitoring, and long-term health outcomes.
While you might think you need to travel outside of Barbour County for exceptional pediatric care, you have access to exceptional care right here in your local community.
Here are five reasons why Barbour Community Health Association is the smart choice for your baby’s or toddler’s care.
Convenient locations close to home.
Barbour Community Health Association has clinic locations in both Belington and Philippi, staffed with caring providers who can treat everything from runny noses to serious diseases.
Our pediatric providers are here for you—and just a short drive away—when your child is sick, hurt, or in need of a vaccine. They help keep your child healthy, provide information about child safety, nutrition, physical activity needs, and answer your questions about your child’s growth and development.
Extended hours to accommodate your busy life.
Whether you’re a working parent or caregiver, or you just need flexibility when scheduling appointments, Barbour Community Health Association locations offer extended hours to make it easy to get your child in to see a provider.
- Belington Medical Clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday evenings and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays.
- Myers Clinic in Phillippi is open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
If your child needs immediate medical attention, walk-in care is available at Barbour Quick Care in Belington (7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday) and at the Myers Clinic in Philippi (7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays).

Experienced staff provide continuity of care.
Barbour Community Health Association’s providers and nursing staff are knowledgeable and experienced. And most have also been part of our team for years. This continuity means that your child is likely to see the same provider visit after visit, year after year, as they grow and their needs change.
“We are proud that our pediatric team members have been with us for so long,” says Dr. John Henderson, II, Barbour Community Health Association’s Chief Medical Officer. “I’ve been affiliated with this organization for almost 30 years, starting part-time in 1995 and becoming full-time 13 years ago. Dr. Ariel Valentine has also been here for 13 years. Our physician assistants also have long tenures. As a result, our staff have gotten to know our patients and their families. As children grow and develop, it’s a real comfort to parents to be able to see the same provider who has cared for their child since they were infants.”
Additional services are available when needed.
While babies and toddlers typically see their pediatrician for regular appointments or minor health problems like scrapes, pink eye, or sore throats, sometimes additional care and services are needed.
X-rays, lab work, and other diagnostic testing can be conducted right in Barbour Community Health Association’s clinics. We also offer behavioral health services and referrals to specialists.
In addition, our Barbour Quick Care clinics treat minor ailments and provide services such as sports physicals, immunizations, and flu shots on a walk-in basis.
Convenient school-based care.
Once your child reaches school age, they can access Barbour Community Health Association healthcare services right in their school, eliminating the need for your child to miss class or for you to leave work to attend a doctor’s appointment during daytime hours.
Our Brandon School-Based Health Services, located in each of Barbour County’s elementary and secondary schools, is staffed with nurses and physician assistants. The services they provide include check-ups, counseling, medication distribution, sports physicals, and regular visits for chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes.
